October 1, 2010 (give parents enough time to contact you with questions before the project is beginning)

To (Parent's Name, you want to individualize each letter for relationship building with them)

Beginning on October 18, 2010 (students name here) will be participating in a Webquest which will take at least four classes to complete. The topic of the Webquest is to learn about the events leading up to Confederation. Your (son/daughter) will be accessing a 'Wikispace' (a site that I created for the students to open) and will follow guidelines and questions that help them navigate. Each page within this site has a link to an internet website that is age-appropriate and teacher approved for use by the students.

Below is a list of some of the links the students will be accessing. Feel free to look through these sites and ask questions by phone, e-mail or written letter through your child.

When (student's name) has completed the questions throughout the Webquest, they will be creating a Podcast in groups of 2 or 3. A Podcast is a media outlet that can be done in audio or video form. Your (son/daughter) will decide within their group which they would prefer to do. They will be creating a Podcast from the point of view of a Mother or Father of Confederation. Their character may be one of the Key Players of Confederation, or they may create their own. I am looking forward to an exciting Webquest for your (son/daughter) as they discover everything they need to know. While the students are working on their assignments I will be ensuring that they are remaining on the sites necessary for this project only.

Sincerely,

Rebecca-Lynn N. Keezer
